The brilliantly named 'Joanna Gruesome' are a Cardiff-based, male/female vocal-led five-piece indie rock group who say they sound like all of your favourite 80s and 90s indie bands rolled into one. Dinosaur Jr, Lush, The Pastels, My Bloody Valentine, Superchunk, Mega City 4...have a listen and see what you think. They've put an EP online for free download (or pay what you like) Signed to Radio One endorsed Art Is Hard label and having played Indietracks, theirs is a name you can expect to hear popping up online and in conversation. For a better idea of what you can expect from them live, you can check out their video for 'Madison' by clicking here and if you're hungry for more, then click here.

Can Diplo do any wrong? Both members of Sleigh Bells had previous experience performing and touring in a musical ensemble. From age 17 to 22, Florida-native Derek Miller was a guitarist in the hardcore band Poison the Well. He last performed on the band's 2003 major-label debut You Come Before You, leaving the following year due to creative differences. He wrote songs while working as a waiter or barback in various cities across the United States.[2][3] Alexis Krauss grew up in New Jersey and has a background in theater and television. As a young girl she appeared in a Nickelodeon Magazine commercial and winked at the camera.[4] From age 12 to 16, Krauss performed in the teen pop group RubyBlue. After RubyBlue broke up, Krauss went to college (majoring in political science), taught Spanish to elementary school children in The Bronx and performed at weddings on the side for fun Vivian Girls are a popular noise pop/indie rock band from Brooklyn, New York. I think there's a good chance you'll recognise the track once you hear it so give a try. I'll confess that I don't know a huge amount about the band other than a familiarity with their music, but I do know that they have supported Sonic Youth and I'd read that their second drummer, Ali Koehler, left to join Best Coast as a tour drummer. Anyways, enjoy the track. |
Making your music folder better, one song at a time.
_Pretty much everyday I seem to find some amazing exclusive tracks that
some awesome artists are giving away for free as a special one off
promotion. Today, it occured to me that instead of just downloading
them, maybe reposting them on facebook if they're special enough/someone I know and
then moving on, I should start a little music blog on here. Even if it
doesn't last forever, it's still a free song for you each day that it
does! I'd say the character of this blog is mostly electropop and singer/songwriter but I've got plans for mathcore, post-rock and glitch-hop. A lot of these tracks have a download limit of 100 so get in there on the quick. I'd also point out that a lot of the songs will need renaming once you've downloaded them so I'd do them one at a time. Archives
